Introduction

Abortion has always been a controversial topic in today's world. In addition, there are too many arguments that are for or against the legalization of abortion to be covered in this blog. However, there are three key arguments that have been identified to support why abortion should be made illegal.

The three arguments that respond fully to why abortion should be made illegal. First is the physical health risks abortion it produces, then the mental health problems that occur after it, and final the immorality of this procedure is argued from a religious and also non - religious viewpoint.

Physical Health Risks

One of the main contributing factors to why abortion should be banned is the physical health risks it generates.

The most serious of these health risks is the link between abortion and breast cancer. This is caused by the disturbance of women hormones during pregnancy. Dr Joel Brind stated that abortion leads to breast cancer because during the process, it leaves the breast cells in a state permanently where it is not active, nor able to grow. In this state the cells are vulnerable to react negatively.

Furthermore, these facts show that women who have had an abortion increase their risk of developing breast cancer by 50%, and in New Zealand 1 in 10 women develop this risk. In addition, the statistics provided by Dr Janet Daling, prove the link between abortion and breast cancer. These findings show that undergoing an abortion increases the risk of breast cancer by 150% for women under the age of 18, also that the risk is increased by 110% for women at the age of 30 and above. This subsequently amounts in relative to the total 50% risk of developing breast cancer after having a termination.

Another physical health problems that are resulted from abortion are future ectopic pregnancies. This is when the fetus is not planted in the uterus, but in the Fallopian Tube. The risk of developing ectopic pregnancies increases by 30% after having an abortion and it quadruples after having two or more. This type of pregnancy is fatal as those who develop this risk have a 12% chance of dying in their future pregnancies.

Other secondary but not minor physical health risks are Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases (PID), Abruptio Placenta, Infertility and other infections.

Moreover, the physical health problems that are presented when having an abortion are many, and overlooking the risks that are involved when making a decision about abortion is negligent. Therefore, these risks over weigh the problems that occur when keeping the baby.

Mental Health Risks

Another factor that contributes to why abortion should be made illegal is the mental health problems that are presented when undergoing the procedure. Although these problems or effects may fluctuate from woman to woman, it is only fair to conclude that these risks do exist and that abortion causes mental health risks.

Most of these mental health effects occur after the abortion has taken place. Post Abortion Syndrome or PAS is described as the trauma or emotional affects that many woman experience after undergoing an abortion.

Facts show PAS or the after affects of abortion does not take place immediately, it occurs months or even years after the termination. These are caused by the feeling of guilt, which often amounts to other feelings like confusion and the feeling of been taken advantage of.

Ramah International has provided statistics which show that nearly 50% of women in America that have had an abortion later suffer from many psychological trauma. These emotions are depression, anger, eating disorders, nightmares and in worst cases suicide and many more.

In outlawing abortion, many of these mental health risks will obviously lessen. It will also save the governments money that are put towards funding counseling institutes, that deal with the mental health issues that abortion produces.

It's 'Murder'

The decision whether abortion is morally correct or not, is strongly dependent on the Religious and also a Non-Religious (Atheist) point of view. Although viewpoints may vary from the different Religions, they all share one common teaching that identifies abortion as a sin or murder, which is why it should be made illegal.

Christians believe that the beginning of human life is at conception. Furthermore, when the foetus has formed it is regarded as a human being, which has human rights. Although abortion or the word 'Abortion' is not mentioned in the Christian scriptures (Holy Bible), the teaching in the 6th Commandment, which is "Thou shalt not murder" (Exodus 20: 6), automatically applies to the foetus. They also believe that instead of participating in a abortion, the baby should be given up for adoption if the parents are not able to support it.

In addition, this same viewpoint towards abortion is shared with the main religions in the world, which are Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Although the leaders and scriptures of these religions are different, they all oppose the idea of abortion and identify it as murder. However, the Buddhist judgment on abortion is not a matter of write or wrong, as they make an exception for abortion if the baby is going to be mentally ill, or cause health problems for the parents, especially the mother.

Atheists are also against abortion. Even though they do not have a central belief in a God or Heavenly being, they firmly believe that abortion abuses human life and that it is murder. The Atheists view on abortion, is not based on any scriptures or beliefs, it is based on morality. Furthermore, these people oppose many problems that occur in the world today such as unjust societies, murder and war violence. In knowing this, it is reasonable to conclude that Atheist disagree with abortion.

To Conclude

In Conclusion, the key points that have been discussed above can be confronting to ones understanding and beliefs of this topic. Furthermore, the findings in this blog clearly state that the physical and mental health risks of abortion, are being misjudged by those who are simply looking for an escape. Also that the morality of it has a long-term influence. This proposes a caveat to those who are thinking of or have undergone this procedure, to think about not only the problems that are being avoided, but also to keep in mind the over mounting risks that are faced when having an abortion.
